4FRNT Skis
Tunisia and Slovenia?
One of the main success stories of the freeride ski movement. Similar to Armada in market segment leadership and success. Good selection of various widths, flexes and lengths to suit pretty much any location and skier. Some love 'em, some don't. Most people who don't like 'em focus on the "image" 4FRNT is supposed to have...bunk we say. Rowdy skis for rowdy skiers. They work. Lots of successes in competitions and good reputation for off-piste die-hards. Rumored to be manufactured in eastern European plants and by Sarco in Tunisia instead of the original site in Canada. More rumors indicate production will be in the Elan factory for 2008 models. Does anyone have more info? Eye witnesses have seen 4FRNT skis in Zermatt with "Made in Tunisia" stickers. Maybe the same factory as Movement and G3?

AK Ski
USA
Very interesting lineup and designs. "Freerace" skis anyone? The "Black Race" ski has the same material on the top as on the bottom to "reduce negative strain". Female-specific ski too.
US importer at http://www.akski-usa.com no longer importing and distributing AK skis. What is the story for 2007-2008? Anyone know?

"Particular attention has been paid to the selection of raw materials. The assembly of fundamentally different elements: wood; titan; fibreglass or carbonfibre, demands from the modern epoxyglue, extreme resistence and strength, combined with great flexibility and vibration absorption. The key lies in the viscoelasticity of the assembling and in the tuning of the bending strength, to the needs of the individual skier. "

AK Ski-USA is the FORMER distributor for AK Ski, Swiss Engineering products in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Aldo Kuonen (his initials AK form the company logo) manufactures high performance alpine skis, emphasizing lightness, maneuverability, stability and speed. We embrace Aldo's philosophy of skiing and his dedication to quality and precision. "WE REGRET WE WILL NO LONGER IMPORT THESE TRULY EXCEPTIONAL SKIS."

AlpinePunk Snowboards
Swedish design - German Manufacture
Serious hardboot, splittail, titanal topsheet snowboards manufactured by Virus-snowboards.de (Virus knows how to make very high-performance carving tools) with carbon/kevlar/titanal construction for serious torsional stiffness. They offer the DEELUXE brand hardboots to complement their carving package. Designed by Mats Drougge. Claimed to NOT be raceboards, but "tools for doing the nicest turns ever and to carve low." Very cool boards. Definitely impressive and premium priced at €1,000 (outside EU) €1,200 (inside EU, includes the tax). These are serious carving instruments. Rumors of a new model (intro at ISPO 2008) called the "SuperSwede" 190cm hardboot-specific twintip for all mountain surfaces and snow conditions, not just carving snow!

  METALBURNER:
"If you´re the kind of rider who want´s to "kill the hill" this is the board for you. The titanal construction makes it blindingly fast but very easy to handle. Torsional stiffness is unparalleld and creates enormous amounts of grip. In order to get a well balanced ride I therefore created a surfboard-torsioncontrol section in the front. This makes the board easier to put on edge and detunes the torsional rigidity with the spli-tail. If you´re looking for performance this is the board for you. We strongly recommend Bomber TD2s for this board.
Price in € 1250.

AFTERBURNER:
I´m very proud to present the latest generation of the legenday Afterburner now with a totally new construction. The new punk-nose give instant and lightning fast grip on icy pists as soon as you put the board on edge but at the same time it creates lift in softer snow. It works massive in POW. And it´s got a lot of new goodies inside: expensive and superstrong ash core, vibrationdamping rubber cutouts in tip and tail. And then you have the split-tail for unmatched grip and surfy feel. There is a reason why there is a cult around this very special board. Made in Germany - no chinese childlabour involved! Made in two different flexes.
Price in € 990.
Price ex tax 891 outside EU.

NB. The board on the picture got a customtopsheet. Real rosewood with cut-out logo in Titanal. Plus 110€

Alpy Skis
Switzerland
Ok...cool European alpine sport...Mountain/Mountaineering Racing. Backcountry-skin your way up to the highest peaks, then make alpine racing turns with race-like construction skis down to beat your buddies. A "superlight" Swiss ski inspired from Jean-Yves Vassalli and Patrick Blanc. 8 different models, most in "regular" and "pro" versions, some with interesting cores with multiple components for different performance characteristics. Most skis have dimensions similar to 93-63-83 in 154cm or 164cm, with light weight (780g (1.58 lbs!)/154cm for example). High performance ISO7000 base materials. An interesting philosophy of alpine climbing ski mixed with racing downhill ski performance. Their "Enduro Pro" ski measures 110-79-97 @164cm - 990g. (2.18lbs). Very cool niche skis. These people take this sport seriously and built a mountaineering race ski! Montana mohair skins complete the packages. Multilingual website. Check out their 2007-2008 catalog.

Demo quicktime movie on their site as well.

Cool blog with great vid clips of freeskiing and moutaineering races.

Quote about the Enduro Pro (translated with Google, but you get the idea)

"Because we love our skis too racing to use them every day, We thought skiing ¨ ¨ training to be big pleasures during our trips in the mountains. With a good width with the shoe (79 mm.), And a radius of 21 m. This is definitely ski-oriented sensations off-piste and why not on the runway also… We opted for a construction similar to the Majesty to keep a low weight (990g.!) Under his tunes nice bird, it deceives his constituents, he is on the contrary a dangerous predator corridors and pristine slopes. His long spatula allows him to crack the slope and darken depending on the surface imperfections without stumbling. Barely at the bottom, it n'espère only one thing: back together quickly please! His statement heel allows him to slip in the very steep without risking block backwards. It improves its skiability and also authorizes the fakie course! Alpy breaks the record and present skiing the lightest (of approx. 30%) among the wide ski."

[Comments from an enthusiast in France:]
Hand-made ski designed and produced in Haute-Savoie in a small valley named Le Giffre (near Chamonix). All the production (longskateboard, luge, ski, monoski, snowboard) is realized by only one craftsman (Daniel Serre) who are using only first choice materials (hood core, strengthened construction...). The production not exceed 150 pairs of skis. All the skis are tested and approved by Denis Rey, ex-pro race skier (downhill in the french team...) now mountain guide and the only pro rider for aluflex. The (wrong...) reputation in France is to say "Aluflex made exclusive ski, very stiff, with strong flex...". That's true for only one ski : the 2 metres (the "ski of the hell" like to say Daniel Serre). But the others are very good in all-snow.
1 lady ski named : jade (165 cm)
1 piste ski named : 188 (188 cm with a version in bamboo very smooth)
1 derby ski named: 200 (200 cm)
1 mid fat ski named : passe montagne (185 cm traduct : cross mountain)

Here's my topic on skipass.com about the passe montagne (in French). One word to describe Aluflex: efficacity

Next level skidesign of the year 2006.07. Or probably even later. All our skis are made in Austria, baked in Amplid owned and developed moulds. All models feature tip-to-tail woodcore, homegrown carbon- or glass sandwich, ABS-sidewall construction and some bling bling superglossy UV-laquer finish
